Phantom Power is a high energy contradance band, based in Boston, Massachusetts. Playing traditional New England fiddle repertoire for today’s contemporary dance crowds, Phantom Power has never failed to delight and excite its audiences.
Phantom Power formed while Bruce and Lissa were on tour in CA in November, 2001. Since then they have been playing dances together wherever and whenever they can. So far their growing list of appearances includes Echo Summit (CA), Pinewoods (MA), Camp DAMP (Juneau, AK), the Ralph Page Legacy Weekend (Durham, NH), the Dandelion Romp (Oberlin, OH), the Silkeborg Dance Weekend (Denmark), the Christmas Country Dance School (Berea, KY), and the Fiddling Frog Weekend (Pasadena, CA), as well as regular contradances throughout New England and beyond.
Their debut, self-titled CD, was released on May 1, 2003, to the delight of dancers everywhere! The CD was reviewed in the Fall, 2003, issue of the Country Dance and Song Society News, which wrote " Lissa's sparkling, authoritative fiddle and Bruce's imaginative and sensitive accompaniment are a great combination."
Individually as well as part of an ensemble, they are accomplished musicians. Bruce has been part of Boston's contra and English country dance community since the mid-70s as a dancer and musician. He also plays piano with New York City's The Fish Family, is the musician for the Commonwealth Morris Men, and has played with a "who’s who" list of great New England fiddlers. Bruce is seen most years conducting the NEFFA Festival Orchestra.
Lissa grew up in Maine as an active member of the contradance community, where she cut her teeth both as a musician and a dancer at a very young age. She has now played all over the world as a fiddler and vocalist, including appearances in Russia, Holland, Belgium, Canada, and of course, the United States. Lissa has opened for artists such as Alasdair Fraser, Skyedance, and Judy Collins. She received a BM in performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2001.
Caller Sue Rosen says "Phantom Power gives you dance music at its finest. Their playing lifts your spirits and your feet."
